The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has been and will continue to change the whole economy as many new business models with breakthrough innovations will completely change the way we do business, the way we interact with customers, interact with each other, from marketing, sales, to customer care, supply chain, ecosystem and corporate governance.
FPT not only cooperates strategically with leading corporations in the field of digital transformation but also builds a team of experts to be ready for Industry 4.0.
According to Gartner’s recent survey, business leaders say that cutting-edge technologies that will change their organization over the next five years include: Advanced Analysis, IoT, digital security, business intelligence, machine learning, virtual assistant, real estate, the blockchain, self-driving vehicles and intelligent robots.
In this setting, many Vietnamese enterprises are already prepared to “survive” when the Fourth Industrial Revolution takes place. For example, from 2013, FPT has selected S.M.A.C. (Social, Mobility, Big data/Analytics, Cloud) is the core technology for future development in Vietnam and in the world. This right choice created the foundation for FPT’s development in the years to come. From 2015, on the SMAC platform, FPT will continue to welcome the new wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with the spirit of “pioneering the digital revolution” and the foundation for digital transformation with the focus of Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT and Big Data/Analytics.
Currently, the most noticeable areas that are under the influence of the Fourth Technology Revolution are traffic/logistics; medical; finance and banking; smart cities.
Accordingly, in the field of transport/logistics, a series of solutions have been and are expected to be deployed such as intelligent transport solutions for railways, roads, waterways, air; smart cities combined with public safety/security as in some highways, railways in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi… Solutions to transport and logistics help improve transport and logistics efficiency, facilitate development and competition for economic sectors, and address social problems and needs.
Meanwhile, new technology applications have also begun to change the face of the health system in Vietnam. For example, FPT is deploying intelligent hospital systems in more than 200 leading hospitals in Vietnam.
Accordingly, the intelligent hospital solution with the new intelligent features on the Cloud will help hundreds of hospitals, remaining medical facilities to perform medical examination and treatment quickly, effectively, in a much shorter time and at a more affordable cost than traditional models. Mobile tracking and inpatient care applications, as well as patient support applications, are developed. The “paperless” hospital model with the maximum digitalization of processes and procedures that are still operating on paper, including electronic/mobile payments, digital signatures.
In the field of finance – banking, new trends are being actively implemented such as the platform and applications of Digital Banking; Big Data/Analytics and AI-based application risk management solutions for public finance, customs, social security; platforms, connectivity, and Mobile/Online/Electronic Payment applications help to increase cashless payment activities in different areas.
How will the application of these new technologies affect the behavior and habits of the people? In fact, the breakthrough technologies of 4IR are transforming the world from the expectations of customers to the way people live, work, play and learn, as well as social relationships. People will demand more personalization or mass personalization. Digital habit, digital culture has changed the behavior and habits of people faster than ever.
For a short time, much shorter than TV, Internet, mobile, the number of Facebook users in Vietnam was ranked seventh global, the number of this social network users accounted for about 50% of the population nationwide. (excluding commercial accounts, people owning multiple accounts…). Even in HCMC, nearly 100% of residents use Facebook. The way of expressing roles, ideas, opinions and personal talents has completely changed with this social network.
In fact, Facebook was a technology at the end of the Third Industrial Revolution, but it did bring about tremendous impact. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine how the behavior and habits of people will change when the technology such as cars driving, robotic, AI… appear in life, economic and cultural activities.
In this setting, the question is what are the opportunities for businesses and individuals from Industry 4.0? What changes and actions should businesses and individuals take to make the most of those opportunities?
In my opinion, Vietnam has experienced the First Industrial Revolution (1IR), the Second Industrial Revolution (2IR), and more than a third of the Third Industrial Revolution (3IR) in the war, so the country does not have a solid scientific and technological foundation for socio-economic development after unification. Twenty years ago, the official Internet connection opened a new era for Vietnam, marking the digital revolution.
Actually started more than 10 years after the Doi Moi (Renovation) since 1986, compared to other countries, we have only about a third of the time to focus on the industrial revolution 3.0 with a high determination of individuals, businesses and the government.
During the industrial revolution, there are individuals, businesses, and leaders who play a role in maintaining and developing new trends. There are generations whose mission is to revolutionize the industry, and we are the ones with this mission in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The lessons learned from 3IR and the First Revolution will be valuable experiences for Vietnam to implement the Second Doi Moi Revolution and the Fourth Industrial Revolution with a systematic, long-term strategy, under the leadership of the Government with the idea of creating and acting.
Strength, future, competitiveness, sustainable development depend on the ability to recognize, adapt and apply new technology platforms. For example, 3D printing has evolved to a high level, with the ability to print multiple materials with precision and sophistication that allow for the transition from subtractive manufacturing to additive manufacturing. It has a great influence on the mode of production, distribution, retail, service provision for goods in the future.
A team of powerful robots in factories without light can work tireless, error-free with high productivity. Instead of participating in the production process, new collar workers turn to train AI, help robots learn skills, knowledge… or collaborate with robots in a completely new production line, which is highly digitalized. Artificial implants can recognize the world through sensors and communicate with a human nervous system.
At the same time, countries with cheap labor forces are gradually replaced by new labor forces with a new mode of production using new materials, distribution in a new way, new business modes and an ecosystem… that never existed. Look at Uber, Airbnb, Fintech…, these are the first waves of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In fact, the Government of Vietnam has been aware of the presence of 4IR and has adopted strategic directions and actions such as Directive No. 16 on “Strengthening Access to the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
In fact, the Government of Vietnam has been aware of the presence of 4IR and has adopted strategic directions and actions such as Directive No. 16 on “Strengthening Access to the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. Smart Industry World 2017 organized by the Central Economic Commission, 9 ministries, the State Bank of Vietnam and IDG, the book “Vietnam with the Fourth Industrial Revolution” compiled by the Central Economic Commission, scientific institutes and leading scientists/ technology/economics…
Individuals and businesses should carefully study and refer to information, directives, documents, as well as international documents (eg Klaus Schwab’s Fourth Industrial Revolution Book, Owner WEF), to gain a deeper insight into the nature and concepts of this revolution. This is an important factor for every individual and business, as everything will change very quickly, very differently according to new rules in the future. If you do not prepare yourself carefully, you will be left behind and deleted.
