Mr. Dang Hoang Vu – Chief Science Officer of FPT Corporation said that the banking and finance industry will apply the most artificial intelligence (AI) in 2019.

Artificial intelligence is changing the face of the world with many applications in all areas. With nearly 10-year experience in AI research and development, Mr. Dang Hoang Vu said that 2019 will be the year of “popularizing AI” because it has exploded all over the world and gradually become popular in all fields.

“Without the need for proficient professors and super-good people, Vietnamese programmers can still use available tools for AI applications. Currently, the application of AI is becoming easier and easier, and requires hardly huge investment; just a few hundred million can build a small application.”, he said.

In Vietnam, the business industry is still leading the application of artificial intelligence. Businesses in technology, e-commerce companies are using it to take care of customers and will boost AI in 2019. Besides, the banking and finance industry is eager to apply AI by the guidance and support policy of the Government.

Although other industries are moving slower, Mr. Vu still appreciates the potential of Vietnam’s artificial intelligence development. With a good foundation of natural science, Vietnamese people have a better level of research than that of countries with similar conditions. Overseas Vietnamese community also has many people working in the field of science and technology. Many AI startups are also invested by Vietnamese in Silicon Valley and pulling the capital back to the country.

“The Vietnamese economy itself has many issues that need to be solved, so there are many chances to develop for the technology in general, and the AI in particular”, FPT Chief Science Officer emphasized.

However, according to this expert, Vietnam still faces many difficulties when the resources are gradually exhausted, and the training schools are not enough for the needs while the highly qualified people go abroad to work. With the strong AI investment and development policy of China, Vietnam is also affected by this wave when the country with billions of residents can encroach, compete with the neighboring markets, and recruit talents.

Mr. Vu said that, in order to develop faster than rivals, the Government should have a policy of socializing AI, mobilizing enterprises to use artificial intelligence in business activities. “Socialization of AI must start from the business community because if they apply the artificial intelligence, people will need to use it, and have the skills to do it, to know it; then, they need to learn it and AI will become more and more popular.”, the expert said.

Mr. Dang Hoang Vu shared at FPT TechDay 2018.

According to the research by Cisco Technology Company (USA), in the next 10 years, about 28 million ASEAN workers are at risk of being replaced by artificial intelligence, including Vietnam. Judging this, FPT Chief Science Officer took the testimony from the former Executive Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt when he said that every industrial revolution would have a lot of people losing their jobs, but soon there would be more new “laid” jobs. It is a shift from simple and repetitive tasks to complex tasks that require higher skills, thinking, and qualifications.

“Machines will increase the labor productivity and so will AI, from the beginning of the industrial revolution to the next 20-30 years, it has never reduced the number of jobs,” said FPT Chief Science Officer.

“How does the artificial intelligence change the world” is also one of the topics Mr. Dang Hoang Vu will share in the “Tech Talk” technology conference that will take place on January 9th. This is one of the events in the framework of the Excellent Technology Product Selection Program 2018 (Tech Award 2018) organized annually by VnExpress newspaper since 2012.
