1. What is Edtech?
Edtech means the application of technology into education, with the aim to improve education quality for all parties involved, and it can also be understood as technology in product forms. Nowadays, the role of technology in education is growing, leading to more interactive, dynamic, and accessible education.
2. Edtech’s future path
Improvement in technology is a daily thing, and we can say education greatly benefits from it, especially during its transformation from tradition methods to tech-based education.
Using LMS (Learning management system)
LMS will make online learning much easier, affordable, and flexible. Teachers can easily create lessons and tests, while learners may gain access to contents at all time. As such, everyone can organize their time more efficiently and proactively, all the while acquiring their desired knowledge.
Using mobile technological devices
On-hand technology devices are quite new, yet extremely useful for studying. Popular devices include: Google glass, VR earphones, smart watches… The Google glass, for example, can record lessons and notes, while smart watches can estimate break time. All the devices are of great use in personalizing and motivating study, giving everyone a personal working space, including children.
Using Internet of Things
Internet of Things (IoT) are becoming quite the trend, especially with the growing popularity of mobile technologies, where more and more devices are connected to the Internet. IoT can be used to simplify all learning processes and eliminate repetitive tasks (such as grading), thus frees up time for teachers to instruct individually and specialize their different classes.
Using Big Data
Big data, along with predictive analysis, holds great potential in assisting learner with areas in which they need to improve in. For example, when a learning join an online course, their learning process and related information will all become big data. After collecting these data, course makers can use them for analysis and adjustments of instructions for better effectiveness. The collected data will be classified to different sets of value based on real demand. It is important to note that no data should be eliminated, since they may seem useless at present, yet invaluable in the future.
Using Augmented Reality (AR)
With Augmented Reality, teachers can transform 2D subjects into interactive ones, making it easier to access and acquire new knowledge.
Using Semantic Web
Semantic Web provides a mutual, shareable and reusable framework throughout various applications and businesses. The Internet is basically borderless, having grown considerably from Web 1.0, where big management computers only display little information, to Web 3.0, where small devices can gain access to many. The future Web 4.0 shall over up even more potentials, one of those being device control using people’s own minds.
Transmedia storytelling (also called multimedia storytelling or multi-platform storytelling), is a technique where a story can be told or experience across various platforms and formats using modern digital technology.
Transmedia storytelling can change how we teach and learn, as it can drive students to think maturely, identify necessary materials for desired knowledge, and give out valuable frameworks for education methods. An example of transmedia storytelling is using it as a teaching tool, where student can interact on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Tumblr to express their views and experience, ensuring students engagement.
3. Edtech application in training within FPT
Edtech application is more than a crucial need, it is the reality that FPT aim to achieve via the group’s various projects. One prime example is VioEdu – a smart Edtech platform utilizing 4.0 technology, researched and developed by the well-experienced specialists of FPT Technology Innovation Department.
Online exercise and test systems has applied newest technologies, including modelling of knowledge using graphs, big data analysis, and finally, artificial intelligence in personalization of the learning experience, where each students can have their own suitable learning process, and from it, overcome their weaknesses and amplify their strengths.
Lesson systems on VioEdu will not be limited to tradition methods, but include practical example, to increase engagement and discussions. Furthermore, VioEdu also personalizes the learning experience, deriving weaknesses and strengths of learners from recorded data. From that, the system will able to increase the effectiveness of the learning process, as well as polish the learners’ skills.
For the first time, Cau Giay Elementary and Secondary FPT Schools had recently hosted a workshop on the applications of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) applications.
FPT Schools is heading towards popular use of VR/AR technologies in teaching. This is an important link the path towards transformation in education, and the eventual destination of 4.0 education with electronic textbooks, online learning, and positive use of technology in schools.
