FPT Software’s AI project about the detection of Pneumothorax received silver medal at Pneumothorax Challenge.

Pneumothorax Challenge, a competition organized by The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) and The American College of Rheumatology (ACR), attracted 1,475 teams that are leading AI experts on medical application.

The development team of FPT Software had conducted various in-depth studies on medical problems, coordinated with local doctors and hospitals and adopted AI applications to diagnose complex illness and improve care for patients for a year.

At the same time, the team also applied its algorithm on the large data set of The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) and The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) during the competition.

Another FPT Software’s AI project – the AI application in detecting Kidney and Tumor Dice was the only Vietnamese project to reach the final at KiTS19 Grand challenge.

KiTS19 Grand challenge is a competition organized by the University of Minnesota (USA) and University of Melbourne (Australia). It attracted the participation of 847 teams with the majority of professors from government-sponsored AI research labs or 3D companies across the globe.

In FPT Software’s algorithm, the precision of results in detecting kidney and tumor diseases reaches 73%, kidney is 93.9% and cancer is 56.6%.

Both projects are built on Residual Capsule, an AI algorithm that is researched, invented and developed by FPT Software. Besides healthcare, Residual Capsule can also be adopted in others fields. FPT Software is filing an international patent application for this algorithm.

The two research results are expected to applied in hospitals and healthcare systems in Vietnam and across the globe to help doctors shorten their consultation time and support training at academic and research institutions.
